The Board of Trustees consists of dedicated volunteers from all over the country who provide governance and financial oversight for Crow Canyon.

David (Dave) W. Melanson

Board of Trustees

Dave is a retired aerospace engineer with a career in the Air Force and private industry leading national security space projects. He joined the Board in 2017 and lives in Cortez, Colorado.

Charles (Ron) R. Larimore

Board of Trustees

Ron is a retired General Partner of Edward Jones and is a very successful artist. He joined the Board in 2001 and lives in Taos, New Mexico.

Roberta Rubin

Board of Trustees

Roberta is the retired owner and manager of The Book Stall at Chestnut Court, an independent bookstore in Winnetka, Illinois. She joined the Board in 2002 and lives in Evanston, Illinois.

Timothy (Tim) A. Kohler

Board of Trustees; Research Associate

Tim is a Regents Professor of Archaeology and Evolutionary Anthropology at Washington State University. Tim applies method and theory from the study of complex adaptive systems to the study of prehistoric societies. He lives in Pullman, Washington, and joined the Board in 2019.

Connie is an amateur archaeologist with a passion for Southwestern history and culture. As a volunteer with Crow Canyon, she has excavated at Shields Pueblo, Albert Pueblo, and Goodman Point. She joined the Board in 2009 and lives in Broomfield, Colorado.

Leslie M. Masson

Vice Chair of the Board

Leslie is a retired software and computer systems manager. She joined the Board in 2015 and currently serves as its Vice Chair. She lives in Lexington, Massachusetts, and also owns a home at Indian Camp Ranch, located near the Crow Canyon campus.

Nancy M. Byers

Board of Trustees

Nancy had a twenty-year career as pilot for Continental Airlines. She joined the Board in 2019 and lives in Durango, Colorado.

Elizabeth (Betsy) M. Alexander

Board of Trustees

Betsy is a retired attorney and political consultant from Alexandria, Virginia. She worked in the archaeology department at Mount Vernon for twenty years. Betsy has served on the Board since 1996.

Joan Goldstein

Board of Trustees

Joan is a professional fundraiser and former development officer for the Chicago Architecture Foundation and Museum of Science and Industry. She lives in Boca Raton, Florida, and Chicago and has served on the Board since 2015.

Pamela (Pam) M. Powell

Secretary of the Board

Pam worked in the medical and legal fields before becoming an active volunteer in the Denver area. She joined the Board in 2013 and lives in Greenwood Village, Colorado.

Elizabeth (Libby) R. Shafer

Board of Trustees

Libby is co-owner of Shafer Vineyards in Napa, California. She has professional experience in advertising, marketing, and portfolio management. She served on the Board from 2009 to 2016 and rejoined the Board in 2020. Libby lives in St. Helena, California.

William (Bill) D. Lipe

Board of Trustees; Research Institute Advisor

Bill is Professor Emeritus at Washington State University where he joined the Anthropology faculty in 1976. He is an archaeologist with expertise in the American Southwest, archaeological method and theory, and cultural resource management. Bill joined the Board in 1995 and lives in Moscow, Idaho.

Nancy M. Stevens

Board of Trustees

Nancy is an active supporter of the arts, with experience serving on theater and arts boards in Snowmass, Colorado, and volunteering as an architecture docent in Chicago. She joined the Board in 2010 and lives in Winnetka, Illinois.

Carole B. Segal

Board of Trustees

Carole was co-founder, with her husband Gordon, of the home furnishings retailer Crate & Barrel. She is an active volunteer in the Chicago area and serves on many non-profit boards. She joined the Board in 2005 and lives in Winnetka, Illinois.

Quincalee Brown

Board of Trustees

Quincalee lives in McLean, Virginia, and is the former Executive Director of the Water Environment Federation. She has served on the Board since 2013.

Deedee M. Decker

Board of Trustees

Deedee is a cattle rancher and former television producer at WGBH in Boston and WNET in New York. She lives in Denver and Ridgway, Colorado, and has served on the Board since 2006.

Sue Anschutz-Rodgers

Board of Trustees

Sue is Chair and President of the Anschutz Family Foundation of Denver and has served on the Board since 1993. She lives in Denver and also owns a home at Indian Camp Ranch, the archaeological subdivision located near the Crow Canyon campus.

Ricky R. Lightfoot

Chair of the Board; Research Institute Advisor

Ricky directed Crow Canyon’s excavations at the Duckfoot site and Castle Rock Pueblo and has published numerous books and articles on Southwestern archaeology. He joined the Board in 1998 and currently serves as its Chair. Ricky has played an important role in the leadership and vision of Crow Canyon since 1984. He lives in Mancos, Colorado.

Karl F. Kumli, III

Board of Trustees

Karl is Vice President of Dietze and Davis, P.C. in Boulder, Colorado, where he has practiced water and energy law since 1997. He rejoined the Board in 2018. Karl lives in Boulder.

Albert (Pete) G. Boyce, Jr.

Board of Trustees

Pete is from Manteca, California. He is a retired cattle rancher and business owner and has served on the Board since 1992.

Joseph H. Suina

Board of Trustees; Pueblo Advisory Group

Joseph is Professor Emeritus at the University of New Mexico College of Education, former Governor of Cochiti Pueblo, and former Director of the Institute for American Indian Education. Joseph joined Crow Canyon’s Native American Advisory Group in 2008 and has served on the Board since 2009.

Pamela (Pam) E. Dowd

Board of Trustees

Pam is a former museum consultant and Museum Director of the Francisco Fort Museum in La Veta, Colorado. She has served on the Board since 2018 and lives in Parker, Colorado.

Richard G. Ballantine

Board of Trustees

Richard is the retired publisher of The Durango Herald, Southwest Colorado’s daily newspaper, and the past president of the Fort Lewis College Board of Trustees. He lives in Durango and has served on the Board since 1988.

Elizabeth (Liz) M. Perry

President & CEO; 1995 Education Intern

Liz is the President and CEO of Crow Canyon. She joined the Board in 2016 and was hired as CEO in January 2018. Liz works closely with the Board to oversee finances, programming, and long-term strategic planning.
