Structure 511, masonry surface structure
About this Structure
Block 500, west of drainage; borders southwest end of plaza.
In middle of back row of roomblock, between Structures 510 and 512.
The location of this structure in a "back" row of rooms in the roomblock, the absence of floor features (such as a hearth), and the presence of a raised-sill doorway suggest that this room was used for storage, although other uses are also possible. No artifacts were found on the floor. The room appears to have been constructed at the same time as Structure 510. The doorway, which is in the south wall, indicates mutual access between this room and Structure 507.
Unlike the other rooms in this kiva suite, usable vessels and tools were removed from this room and the rooms was abandoned; this occurred before the suite was abandoned.
The upper walls began to collapse (no evidence of roofing material) while the remainder of the kiva suite continued to be occupied, and some refuse was deposited into the collapsing wall debris. After the suite was abandoned, the upper portions of the walls continued to collapse.
