Structure 510, masonry surface structure
About this Structure
Block 500, west of drainage; borders southwest end of plaza.
Northwest corner of roomblock, in back row of rooms. Adjacent to (west of) Structure 511.
The location of this structure in a "back" row of rooms in the roomblock, the absence of doorways (indicating that entry was through the roof), and the absence of floor features such as a hearth suggest that this room was used for storage. Only a few small artifacts were found on the floor. The room appears to have been constructed at the same time as Structure 511.
Only a few small artifacts were found on the floor of this structure, indicating either that nothing was in the room when the decision was made to abandon the kiva suite, or that the items in the room were removed sometime prior to the roof collapsing. The absence of secondary refuse in the fill of this room suggests that the structure was abandoned at the same time as the kiva suite. Abandonment of this structure and the remainder of the kiva suite appears to have occurred at the same time that occupation of the village ended. Abandonment of the suite could have followed a ritual interment in Structure 501 (kiva), could have resulted from a warfare event, or from some other, unknown cause.
Roof and upper walls collapsed naturally.
