Structure Use

Few data on which to base an interpretation of use, although the location of this room in a D-shaped, bi-wall structure might indicate special use. This appears to have been a tall room--the extant portion of the north wall is more than 2 m high, with no evidence of beam sockets in the excavated portion of the room. No features were found in the exposed portion of the room, and no artifacts were found on the exposed portion of the floor. A doorway that allowed access into this room from Structure 1503 to the north was exposed in the south wall of that structure. That doorway was blocked at some point during the occupation of the architectural block, after which, access into Structure 1508 would have been either through a hatchway or possibly through a doorway in the west wall, or unexposed portion of the south wall. The blocking of the doorway could indicate a change in the use of the room.

The lack of artifacts on the excavated portion of the floor suggests that abandonment was leisurely. The absence of trash in the room fill suggests that the abandonment of this room occurred as part of the abandonment of the architectural block.

The roof rotted and collapsed, and then the upper portions of the walls collapsed. Additional sediment was deposited naturally.
