Structure Use

Structure 140 is similar to other pit structures constructed during the late Pueblo II period and was probably used for domestic activities. The presence of jar and bowl sherds on the floor surface and a hearth (Feature 1) indicates domestic activities. The hearth would have been used for light, heat, and food preparation.

This structure was probably abandoned in the early Pueblo III period (based on the small amount of Mesa Verde Black-on-white sherds).

Natural sediments accumulated over the structure after it collapsed.
