Nonstructure 5.4-N, midden
About this Nonstructure
Lower west side; base of talus slope near canyon bottom. East-southeast of Nonstructure 1-N and west of Structure 3 (a tested kiva).
Upper fill of 1-x-1-m 320N 482E (EU 7). Rests above Nonstructures 5.5-N, 5.6-N, 5.7-N, and 5.8-N.
Part of Nonstructure 5-N testing; see Nonstructure 5-N and associated EU for description and explanation of testing strategy.
In situ secondary refuse that could have originated from the kiva units north of this study unit, including a tested kiva, Structure 3, and the nearby towers resting on top of boulders.
Dating of Midden
Based on pottery data, this refuse was deposited in Pueblo III times. The most predominant formal type is McElmo Black-on-white. Based on stratigraphic position, this is the latest midden deposit in 1-x-1-m 320N 482E and postdates two other midden deposits (Nonstructures 5.6-N and 5.8-N) and two construction deposits (Nonstructures 5.5-N and 5.7-N).
