General description
Round, basin-shaped hearth.
Use history
Hearth used for light, heat, cooking, ritual, etc; Feature 1 was used throughout the use-life of Structure 117.

Excavation procedure
All of the hearth within the 1-x-2-m unit (Segment 1) was excavated with a trowel and spoon in a full cut. Approximately 12 liters of ash were collected for flotation analysis.
Portion excavated
All of the hearth within the 1-x-2-m unit (Segment 1).
Horizontal location
Southwest portion of 2-x-2-m unit 491N 540E.
Vertical location
Top of hearth is at Surface 1, or approximately 96.09 m. Bottom of hearth is at approximately 95.82 m.
Construction
A round, basin-shaped pit was excavated from Surface 1 into undisturbed native sediment; the pit was then plastered with adobe and an adobe hearth collar was constructed slightly above Surface 1.
