Nonstructure 5.2-N, cultural deposit, type unknown

About this Nonstructure

No Surface
No Masonry

General Location

Lower west side; base of talus slope near canyon bottom. East-southeast of Nonstructure 1-N.

Specific Location

Lower fill of 1-x-1-m 306N 506E (EU 5) and 1-x-1-m 320N 482E(EU 7); rests below 5.1-N.

Selection Criteria

Part of Nonstructure 5-N testing; see Nonstructure 5-N and associated EU's for description and explanation of testing strategy.

Use

This is either a natural, pre-occupational deposit with intrusive cultural material or an early cultural deposit. The main argument for this being a pre-occupational deposit with intrusive cultural material is that the artifacts and charcoal flecks came from the top of the deposit. In addition, the pottery from this deposit is not earlier than the pottery from the later assemblages. If this is a sterile deposit, it could be redeposited sterile sediment from the construction of a nearby kiva.

Abandonment

Covered by secondary refuse.

Postabandonment Process

Not applicable.

Dating of Construction

Not constructed. Pottery from this deposit dates between A.D. 900 and 1300. Based on stratigraphic position, this deposit predates a secondary refuse deposit (Nonstructure 5.1-N).

Dating of Remodeling
