Structure 223, subterranean kiva

STRUCTURE DATING

Abandonment
Structure 223 was abandoned in the late Pueblo III period (based on pottery in contact with the floor surface). It is possible that this is one of the latest structures occupied immediately prior to regional abandonment.
Construction
Four tree-ring samples from the roof dated from A.D. 897vv to A.D. 1250vv. Tree-ring data, combined with architectural characteristics and pottery data, indicates that Structure 223 was constructed during the late Pueblo III period.
Remodeling
None evident.
Reuse
Features 3 and 4 (walls) were constructed on the bench face of Structure 223 after the roof was intentionally burned and collapsed.
