CONSTRUCTION

Method and Sequence

(1) A large, round pit was excavated from the prehistoric ground surface into undisturbed native sediment; (2) a ventilator system was excavated in the southern recess; (3) the bench, ventilator system and southern recess were lined with single-coursed-wide masonry; (4) coursed-masonry pilasters were constructed on the bench surface; (5) a hearth was excavated from Surface 2 into undisturbed native sediment; (6) a sandstone slab deflector was anchored into the floor; (7) the floor was plastered with adobe; (8) a cribbed roof was constructed on the pilasters (inferred); (9) the bench, pilasters, and upper lining wall were plastered).
